Supporting a Movement for Social Change

After 100 years of giving back to the progressive and labor movements that have built Amalgamated Bank, the Amalgamated Foundation is now answering the call of community organizations and movement leaders to be a stronger, more meaningful grantmaking partner. The Foundation is supporting power-building strategies for systems change across three key areas of impact rooted in changing fundamental injustice and inequality:

Investing in bold clean energy and sustainability solutions to benefit those hit first and worst by climate change.

The Fall 2019 docket recommends a slate of community-based organizations from across the country who are leading in best practice work in the Foundation’s focus areas.

Climate & Sustainability

The 2019 Fall docket is supporting a trio of strong community based organizations in three key regions of the country that are leading local climate justice movements centering those most impacted by climate change.

 

Partnership for Southern Equity

Is leading working to address environmental and economic justice the South.

WEACT

Is leading a community planning process in Harlem focused on extreme heat to remedy to keep vulnerable neighbors safe.

LAANE

The Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy is working at the intersection of clean energy and workers' rights.

Democracy & Justice

The Fall 2019 docket supports direct power building, voter registration, and election accountability work in the District of Columbia.

 

Diverse City Fund

It is leading a community planning process in Harlem focused on extreme heat to remedy to keep vulnerable neighbors safe.

Workers’ Rights & the New Economy

Worker’s rights is at the core of Amalgamated’s legacy. ACF seeks to both build power for worker’s in the current economy and seed new economic practices that address the future of work, the racial wealth gap, and access to capital for marginalized communities.

 

ALIGN NY

Will continue their work to expand decent, sustainable jobs to all New Yorkers.

Restaurant Opportunity Center

Will explore ways to support culinary safety and expand worker organizing efforts.

Additional Recommended Grants

In addition to the Foundation’s impact areas, we also funds work that supports a thriving philanthropic sector dedicated to social change, efforts to strengthen the financial sustainability of the social change ecosystem, and the seeding and innovation as rapid response to relevant, emerging work.

 

New Media Ventures

Supports innovation and technology start-ups in the social change sector.

Progressive Multiplier Fund

Is working to develop revenue streams that fund social justice organizing work.

 

Mission Investors Exchange

Will expand their work with foundation members to center an equity strategy in impact investments.

Center for Community Progress

Will engage in a planning process to design a Land Bank Network.
