#HalfMyDAF Sets New Record with $13.6 Million in First-Round Grants

July 23, 2024
In

#HalfMyDAF, the popular giving campaign that leverages the power of collective action by donor-advised fund (DAF) holders and matching funds to support nonprofits on the frontlines of social change, just announced that it broke its previous grantmaking records for first-round giving.

#HalfMyDAF participants commit to spending down at least half their money by September of each year. On July 1, #HalfMyDAF conducted the first of two matching-grant drawings, awarding half of this year’s $2.1 million matching pool to eligible nonprofit organizations. Of the more than 1,000 grant submissions received from advocacy groups, a quarter were randomly selected to receive over $1 million in unrestricted matching funding with grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 each. Two nonprofits received $25,000 matches.

Additionally, for the first time this year, #HalfMyDAF and Amalgamated Foundation, the campaign’s institutional partner, worked with the Democracy Fund and a group of individual donors and foundations to establish a dedicated $320,000 matching fund within the larger #HalfMyDAF program for organizations working to strengthen, protect, and advance democracy. As the campaign's institutional partner, Amalgamated Foundation contributed $50,000 to the democracy matching pool and provided financial and administrative support to distribute funds quickly and effectively to organizations awarded matching grants.

Here are some highlights from the first matching round of #HalfMyDAF 2024:
