In this pivotal year for our democracy, Amalgamated Foundation is thrilled to partner with #HalfMyDAF and Democracy Fund in an effort to mobilize Donor Advised Fund (DAF) dollars with thoughtful urgency to organizations working to strengthen, protect, and advance democracy.
Inspired to move money out of the $229 billion sitting in DAFs, Jennifer and David Risher’s #HalfMyDAF campaign offers matching grants to encourage donors with DAFs to grant at least 50% of the funds in their account to their favorite nonprofits each year. Last year’s campaign broke records, bringing #HalfMyDAF’s total impact to more than $50M in charitable giving since its inception in 2020.
Meanwhile, Democracy Fund’s All by April campaign has already inspired funders and donors to move millions of dollars early this election cycle in support of nonpartisan organizations that help uphold our democracy, ensuring they can strategically allocate resources well before the November elections.
Building on the momentum of All by April and success of #HalfMyDAF, we’re teaming up to raise at least $500,000 for a dedicated #HalfMyDAF matching pool for pro-democracy nonprofits supported by donors who commit to spending down half their DAF.
As the campaign's institutional sponsor, Amalgamated Foundation is administering matching grants and contributing $50,000 to the matching pool for strengthening democracy. All grants made by June 28 to 501(c)(3) organizations strengthening election infrastructure, engaging and mobilizing a diverse electorate, protecting voters in the courts, countering disinformation, and/or defending against election sabotage will be eligible for dollar-for-dollar matches up to $10,000.
