The #HalfMyDAF campaign, a national initiative that inspires donors to make charitable grants from donor-advised funds (DAFs), is pleased to announce its first round of matching grants for 2023, totaling $650,000 in matches. Twenty-eight percent of the grants made by #HalfMyDAF donors so far this year were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000.
#HalfMyDAF donors have given $7.1 million to 714 nonprofits in the last three months. The nonprofits receiving matches – which were randomly selected from 803 donations made since March 1, 2023 – range from small, local charities to major national organizations and span a wide array of issue areas, from climate change to food security to racial justice.
“We’re thrilled to match over one-quarter of the 803 grants made since March 1st,” said Jennifer Risher, co-founder of #HalfMyDAF. “I’m inspired by the generosity of #HalfMyDAF donors who granted over $7.1 million from their DAFs to nonprofits. They’ve given to large organizations like Outward Bound and Save the Children and also to lesser-known groups that are fun to learn about like Old Skool Café and SHE-CAN. We hope this first round of grants encourages even more giving in the next three months.”

The matching grants will be administered by the Amalgamated Foundation, which is partnering with the campaign to provide financial and administrative support as part of its mission to mobilize charitable resources with thoughtful urgency.
“Moving more money from donor-advised funds to the frontlines of social change is what this campaign is all about,” said Anna Fink, Executive Director of the Amalgamated Foundation. “It’s thrilling to see this first round of matching grants go out the door to so many deserving causes, and to see the generosity of so many donors be amplified through #HalfMyDAF.”
The #HalfMyDAF campaign will make its second and final round of matches for 2023 on October 2, 2023. All grants not matched in the first round and all new grants submitted to #HalfMyDAF from now until September 29, 2023 will be eligible for randomly selected dollar-for-dollar matches up to $5,000. In the second round of matches, one lucky organization will receive a match of $50,000. Nonprofits receiving grants don’t have to take action to receive the matching funds–however, registering through the Amalgamated portal will speed up the flow of funds.
